How to Modify Your Personal Commons Site

This is a guide for those who have a site on the CUNY Commons that they would like to modify. If you have not yet created your personal site, start here. Email the Social Media Manager if you would like help with building a site on the CUNY Commons.

How to upload a .pdf file to the commons (putting it on the web)

  1. Go to Dashboard
  2. Go to Media>>Add New
  3. Select Files
  4. Select desired file>>Open
  5. Copy file url (to use in next step) by clicking Ctrl+c
  6. Click Save all changes
  7. You file will show up in your Media Library. It has been successfully put online.

How to link to a .pdf file on the commons (connecting to what you put on the web in step 1 if, e.g., have a new upcoming paper)

  1. Pages>>All Pages
  2. Select the page you wish to add the new paper to
  3. Type the name of the paper
  4. Highlight the name you just typed
  5. Click the ‘link’ icon. This is below the ‘B’ icon.
  6. Insert the link you copied by pressing crtl+v
  7. Click Add link.
  8. Your paper title will now by underlined to show it is a link to the paper.
  9. Click Update.
  10. Your paper has been successfully linked to online.

How to delete a link to a .pdf file on the commons

  1. Highlight the link you wish to delete
  2. Press Delete.
  3. Click Update.
  4. The link has been removed.

What the difference is between adding a file to upcoming papers vs. to published papers

How to re-arrange the display, including new/changes to headings

  1. To change the title of a page edit in the title bar above the text
  2. Click Update
  3. To move papers around. Cut the link with crtl+x and paste where you like it with ctrl+v.
  4. Click Update.
