Professional Development: Grants Workshop for Graduate Students
February 10, 2017 @ 1:00 am - 3:00 pm
via Interim Deputy Executive Officer Eric Mandelbaum:
“I’ve arranged for the library’s grants librarian to put on a philosophy-specific grants workshop on Feb 10 from 1-3. The librarians and I will walk you through the resources available at the GC for getting you grants. Obtaining external funding is incredibly useful both for your quality of life and for your market prospects, so I recommend that y’all attend regardless of your year or AOS.
In the workshop, the librarian will walk us through a bunch of directories you probably didn’t know existed. These will include search engines that can find extremely narrowly defined grants based on demographic data (you’d be shocked how many grants there are for being [e.g.] a 2nd generation NJ resident who wants to study poetry and has a background in community service). Please RSVP to me (emandelbaum@gc.cuny.edu) so I can have an idea of how many people are coming, and what type of room to book.
Later in the semester I’ll hold a second workshop focused on very large grants and dissertation completion fellowships. But I only know the main ones–this workshop will give you the tools to find grants very few people know about (and grants that often go undistributed for lack of applicants).”
