NY-MAPWorks: Fatema Amijee (Simon Fraser), “Feminist Islam” & Filipa Melo Lopes (Michigan), “Gender and the Social Standing Thesis”

The Minorities and Philosophy (MAP) chapters of Columbia, The CUNY Graduate Center, NYU, Rutgers, and The New School are excited to invite you to the fourth of a series of five workshops this Spring semester!

There will be two talks by graduate students or postdocs, followed by a reception with snacks and wine and the opportunity to meet philosophers from the New York area and beyond.

The schedule of the fourth session (at Columbia, Room 305, Kent Hall) is:

  • 7:00-7:50: Fatema Amijee (Simon Fraser), “Feminist Islam”
  • 7:50-8:45: Filipa Melo Lopes (Michigan), “Gender and the Social Standing Thesis”
  • 8:45-9:30: Food & Beverage Reception

NY-MAPWorks is a joint initiative of the NY-area MAP chapters to support and promote the work of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows from groups underrepresented in philosophy.
